Hinds County, MS: Officials have been exploring all practical, alternate means that will allow for the appropriate and proper temporary morgue services. Working closely with the Mississippi State Crime Lab, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors has secured an agreement with the State Crime Lab to provide space to store decedents awaiting autopsy. The Board has also entered into an agreement with another entity, that will remain nameless for obvious confidentiality and privacy concerns.
These two options will:
- Provide additional needed resources to the Coroner to respectfully manage the storage of decedents awaiting identification, autopsy, or processing for evidence purposes and
- Alleviate the backlog that the Hinds County Coroner is currently experiencing largely due to complications resulting from the pandemic.
